TO THE CUSTOMERS OF THE WHEAT RIDGE WATER DISTRICT

The Board of Directors of the Wheat Ridge Water District (“the District”) considered and ratified a rate increase of 6% at the December 12, 2023, Board meeting. The new rates will take effect January 1, 2024. The rate increase is necessary due to an increase wholesale water rates by Denver Water as well as the inflationary impacts on wages, goods and services felt over the past few years.

In addition to the rising cost of daily operations, the District is continually planning for and executing capital repairs and replacements to its vast network of waterlines and associated infrastructure. The District is currently executing the planned replacement of water main lines located within the Wadsworth Boulevard right-of-way, By performing the work in conjunction with the City of Wheat Ridge’s Wadsworth Boulevard Widening Project, the District is able to significantly reduce the cost of this segment of water main line replacement. At completion, the District’s portion of the work is expected to be approximately $2,500.000.00.

Necessary repairs and replacement of the remaining seventy-year-old cast iron main lines will take place over the next twenty to forty years. Since 1975 the District has successfully replaced approximately two-thirds of its main lines without incurring debt. Although the District has been proactively replacing and updating its infrastructure, there remains approximately twenty miles of main lines that need to be replaced.

The District’s rates and fees for 2024 are posted on the website at https://www.wrwdistrict.com/. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the District’s office at 303-424-2844. Thank you.
