           TO THE CUSTOMERS OF THE WHEAT RIDGE WATER DISTRICT

To better monitor water consumption and provide timely and accurate water consumption and billing information, the district is transitioning from bi-monthly to monthly billing for residential customers, effective in January 2025.

Beginning January 19, 2025, your bill will increase by $3.42 per month on the fixed portion (Service Charge) for single family residential customers. For multi-family dwelling and commercial customers, your service charge will increase by $3.42 per single family residential equivalent (SFE). The metered consumption for all customers (Consumption Charge) will increase by three percent (3%). This rate increase is necessary to keep pace with inflation and fund essential capital replacements.

The district is working through a program to update all the remaining seventy-year-old cast iron main lines with larger, modern ductile iron and PVC water main lines. Since 1975 we have successfully replaced approximately two-thirds of our water mains without incurring debt. And, although the district has been diligent in replacing and updating its infrastructure, approximately twenty miles of water main lines need to be replaced over the next thirty to forty years. The annual investment in capital replacements is expected to be at least $500,000.

As part of our capital replacement plan, the district recently replaced the Wadsworth Boulevard water mains in coordination with the City of Wheat Ridge’s Wadsworth Boulevard Widening Project. This collaboration significantly reduced our capital costs, and we will continue to pursue similar cost-saving opportunities whenever possible.
